The Volkswagen Jetta GLI has long been a sportier, more athletic version of the standard Jetta. The 2019 model year has continued that trend, offering Jetta enthusiasts a more tricked-out version of Volkswagen’s flagship sedan.

Performance
The GLI has traditionally held a little less under the hood than its GTI cousin. But that gap was erased for 2019, as the new Jetta GLI now boasts the same 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Those are upgrades of 18 horsepower and 51 units of torque from the previous model year.
A 6-speed manual transmission comes standard on all three GLI trims while a 7-speed automatic remains available.
Design
The GLI makes no effort to conceal its upgraded performance. The front and rear lower fascias are much more aggressive than those of the standard Jetta while a rear spoiler, blacked-out grille, LED daytime running lights, and chrome dual-exhaust pipes cement the GLI’s identity as the pinnacle of the Jetta family.
The cabin experience of the GLI is warm and comforting when compared to the louder exterior. Ventilated sport seats and a leather-wrapped, multi-functional sport steering wheel put you at ease while 10-color interior lighting allow for some personalization or to set the mood.
Technology
The Jetta GLI is just as smart as it is tough, offering Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, which are controlled through a 6.5-inch touchscreen display.
The GLI also comes equipped with VW Car-Net®, Volkswagen’s intuitive software that can do anything from helping you locate your car in a crowded lot, send directions to its navigational system from a remote location, call for roadside assistance, and plenty more.
Safety
Volkswagen is not one to skimp on safety, and the 2019 Jetta GLI goes all out.
