What Is a TDI Engine?
TDI stands for Turbocharged Direct-Injection, the two aspects of a Volkswagen diesel engine that set it apart from traditional diesel powertrains. Unlike traditional diesel engines, a TDI injects fuel directly into the combustion cylinders. This process allows these engines to use fuel more efficiently, unleashing more power while delivering higher mileage.
TDI models also use a turbocharger, which forces compressed air into each cylinder for improved performance. With a turbocharger, an engine can have fewer cylinders overall, making for a smaller, more efficient engine that puts out equal or greater power than larger, less efficient machines.
